BOOST - The Solution To Supply Chain
Constraints In Canada
My role:
UI/UX designer, Service designer
My contribution:
Business pattern, market research, user-flow diagram, wireframes, mock-ups.
The problem:
There weren’t enough truck drivers in Canada, which caused severe supply chain constraints in 2022.
Solution:
I designed a business pattern that allowed inter-city drivers to take on some delivery tasks, easing the tension of supply chain disruption and lowering good prices.
Time spent:
February 1 – March 4, 2023; July 1 – August 30, 2023

Project Background
2023, the disruption of the supply chain has become a significant issue.
It caused the rising prices of goods and raw materials.
In order to solve this issue, I plan to build a virtual business pattern and possibly mitigate supply chain disruption.
Project Overview
The shortage of skilled truck drivers is one of the causes of rising prices of goods like meat and vegetables, and there will be a shortage of food in other provinces outside Alberta.
But, civilian drivers who are willing to help food suppliers and serve as temporary delivery people could possibly take on a portion of goods and compensate for the lack of trucks. And the suppliers will have to pay them as well.
Business pattern
Why would this business pattern work?
Because there are many civilian car drivers who travel across cities every week.
Graph 1 – the number of vehicles passing through different web-cam spots between Hamilton and Toronto from 2022-10-30 to 2022-11-27
The platform
Based on the business pattern, I plan to design an App which connects the service and the stakeholders to make the service more approachable and easier to understand.
The purpose of this App is to serve as a platform where suppliers can post their needs for civilian delivery drivers and information about the goods.
Meanwhile, cross-city drivers can take on the task if the destination of the goods is the same as theirs. And they can earn extra income.
This business pattern could be a short-term way of solving the issue of supply chain disruption.
Research Results
April until May 2022, experts expected supply chain disruption to continue across Canada in the next 6 months.

Conclusion Of Research
67.9% of all surveyed industries claimed that the supply chain disruption has deteriorated in the last three months.
The percentage has decreased compared with the percentage 3 months ago.
Compared with the last three months, the situation of the supply chain disruption has not changed.

Main Reasons That Caused Supply Chain Disruption
Delivery service has been postponed in 84.1% of those surveyed businesses in all industries.
In 78.5% of those surveyed businesses, the price of inputs and resources has increased.
75.7% of the businesses faced a shortage of available resources and inputs.
