Overview

NIM is an internal collaboration app designed to support secure workplace communication and project management. It allows employees to communicate through direct messages, group chats, file sharing, and project-related coordination within the company’s own system.

Background

Many companies use third-party tools like Slack for communication, but external platforms can raise concerns about information security and data control. New Idea Machine wanted a more secure internal solution that could also support project collaboration in one centralized platform.

Problem

Using separate tools for communication and project management can create fragmented workflows and reduce efficiency. Third-party platforms may also provide limited control over sensitive internal data and may not fully match the company’s internal processes.

Goal

The goal was to design a secure, simple, and efficient internal platform that combines communication and project collaboration. The product needed to help teams stay connected, manage work more easily, and keep sensitive information within the company’s own infrastructure.

My Role

I worked on the UI/UX design of the application. My focus was on improving usability, simplifying the interface, and creating a clearer structure for both messaging and project-related tasks.

Design Approach

The design focused on two core modules: instant messaging and project management. I aimed to create a clean and intuitive experience that helps users switch easily between conversations, shared files, and project workflows.

Solution

We created an internal platform that combines secure messaging with project collaboration features. This allowed the company to centralize team communication and work coordination while maintaining greater control over information security and user access.

Outcome

The result was a more focused internal tool that supports both daily communication and project work. It improved workflow efficiency and better aligned with the company’s operational and security needs.

Reflection

This project helped me think about how internal tools can support multiple business needs within one product. It also strengthened my ability to design a clear experience for complex workflows involving both communication and project management.
